Daughter's First Snake Spotting
My daughter spotted a snake by herself for the first time today! We were at a place for kids to play freely, without lots of rules and safety measures that most play areas have. It is on the side of a (small) mountain and has a great view of the city that we live in as well as the mountain range on the other side of the city.
My daughter and I were walking in the woods, and I told her that she needs to watch for snakes. She soon spotted one and called me over! The snake had already taken cover underneath a bush, so I did not see it. We then walked back toward the main area, and met another kid on the trail. I warned him that there was a snake in a bush down the trail, and he ran back to tell the staff. The head staff came, and my daughter was really happy to lead her to the place where she spotted the snake.
The snake was out again! It was a striped snake. The staff did not know much about snakes, so I told her how to identify it and let her know that it is nonvenomous. The snake retreated again, so I pulled up a photo that I took of a striped snake that I saw during a hike last week.
When my wife returned home this evening, my daughter excitedly ran to the door and told her about spotting a snake by herself!
