Element Troubles (Part 2)

In Element Troubles, I wrote about how I am unable to read messages that are posted to Element when I am not online. I wondered if my strict security and privacy settings in Firefox might be the cause, so I tried the desktop client. The desktop client uses Electron, so it runs a separate Chromium instance with settings that are appropriate for the application. Unfortunately, the problem persists.

For my test, I ran the desktop client for more than half a week, to make sure that all keys were synced. I exited the client last night, and I logged in again this morning. All messages that were posted while I was offline show the “unable to decrypt” error, just like in the browser.

Currently, the only recourse that I know of is to stay logged in. I am using a laptop, however, so this is not always possible, much less convenient. Perhaps somebody should write a caching proxy, a feature that many IRC bouncers provide?
