First Snake of the Season

I took a friend on a hike yesterday, and the weather was quite nice! My friend is concerned about snakes, and I predicted that we would not see any since it is still so cold in the night. We spotted a nonvenomous snake at the end of our hike, however! It climbed up onto a branch of a tree next to the trail when we approached.

I checked my blog and see that I spotted my first snake of last season on May 7th! I spotted this one on May 8th, so it is not early at all.
