Status Report
Noticing that there have been fewer blog entries lately, a friend recently asked if I am currently busy with some secret project. Perhaps I finally started writing a book? Alas, my productivity on website and personal projects has just been low due to summer vacation.
Summer Pandemic Vacation
My daughter is currently on summer vacation! With COVID-19 infection rates that are between two and three times the peak rates of previous waves in our area, activities are limited. My daughter does not remember pre-COVID times, so it is normal for her, and she is really enjoying playing at home as well as in local parks.
This past weekend, we were able to go camping in the neighboring mountains with some friends! We almost had to cancel due to rain. There has been a lot of rain in Japan this month, and the temperature has been lower than normal. It has felt like a second rainy season. Due to heavy rain on the previous night, we received a phone call from the camp staff on the morning of our departure. They recommended that we cancel, but our friends were already en route, so we went and planned on leaving only if the staff asked us to. Two members of our party were asked to evacuate by their parents, but the rest of us were able to stay and have a great time! We were able to cook four meals on the campfire, and all other campers canceled, so we had the place to ourselves.
There is about a week and a half left of summer vacation. My daughter will then only have morning kindergarten for a week or two before returning to her normal schedule.
Vaccination
In my city of residence, my age group was finally able to make reservations for vaccines from this morning! I tried to make a reservation as soon as possible, but the slots filled up too quickly. Some vacancies were shown as I filled in the details, but those slots were taken by the time the form was submitted. I really hope that they make more slots available!
Japan has approved the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, but it looks like I am unable to select which one I want. Unfortunately, only Pfizer is available in my area.
FeedPipe
I am making progress on the implementation of FeedPipe.
In the first FeedPipe blog entry, I mentioned that I explored the design by writing a configuration file in “literate YAML” format. I decided against putting too much documentation in the configuration and now have minimal documentation in comments to keep the file small. Full documentation is available in the FeedPipe User Manual, which I am writing in GitHub Flavored Markdown so that it can be viewed directly on GitHub. Once the initial implementation is done, I plan on carefully reading through the manual and checking everything against the implementation, making changes when I find a discrepancy.
I am currently using Haskell Books as test content, but I need to create some small examples of the various ways to use FeedPipe. The Haskell Feeds repository can be referenced as a real-world example.
